Building Better Communities – Thank you Jewson!!

Volunteers have rallied together to build a brand-new garden for Jewson Building Better Communities 2018 winner, Headway Darlington.

Headway Darlington is a charity dedicated to improving the lives of brain injury survivors and their families. The Darlington group won £4,000 worth of building materials earlier this year, as part of the competition by builders’ merchant Jewson, which was put towards creating the garden.

With a little help from green-fingered volunteers and Jewson colleagues, the team transformed the grey front of the building into a beautiful garden. Complete with seating and raised vegetable beds, the space can now be used to help visitors to Headway Darlington relax and recuperate.

Amy Crosby, fundraising coordinator at Headway Darlington, said: “This garden will go such a long way in supporting our beneficiaries. We know that spending time outside can be really therapeutic, so we’re going to set up a gardening club that helps the people who visit us make the most of this.

“The support we’ve received from Jewson and the wider community has been overwhelming, and we’re so grateful to those who helped make this garden possible.”

Graeme Wilson, who works at the Jewson branch on Lingfield Way in Darlington, added: “Local projects like Headway Darlington do so much for the communities they serve, and it’s important that companies like ours give something back to say thank you.

“Seeing people from across the region, our staff and other volunteers get stuck in to make this possible has been fantastic, thank you to everyone who gave their time, their support and everything in between.”
